Trade UP-date: Sunday was a productive day of swapping!
-Sega Genesis went to a nice fellow from CL in exchange for a well loved Gibson Baldwin Education Series Epoch Les Paul - more or less, a base model electric guitar
-
Dreamcast plus i3 and two packs of
9007 headlight bulbs were swapped for a first gen iPad Mini with a different guy from The List
hard to see in this pic, but it’s been used quite extensively
no cracks, just the stock iPad bg
Small trade that happened between now and my last post:
Two 2gb stick of DDR3 Ram swapped with an IT guy at work for two sets of NIB mid-
grade 9007 headlight bulbs
Any opposite lock guitarist or iPadist want to do a swap?

I already have my mahogany + humbuckers Gibson-style guitar needs met, but that looks like a decent budget item. Kind of weird, though, how there are cheap guitars with Gibson-style bridge pins allowing the bridge to be replaced, and yet still using a cast bridge with fixed saddles. I guess it’s so they can use the same template for a nicer version and have a certain bare minimum of action adjustment, but still a little funny. Not that it’s hard to upgrade if one is doing something funny that will need intonation adjustment - weird tunings or weird strings.

I think I have a whole set of vintage Dickens books at my dad's house I'll trade for the guitar. It'll be like two weeks til I can get to em, though. It's like 20 some odd books in a matched set.

I’m interested in the guitar. What do you have interest in swapping for? I have a red Wii or possibly an Acer Ultrabook that needs some software work. It works but the OS is unregistered. Comes with recovery media but I can’t get it to work.

It’s a base model guitar for sure. The education series is I think a step or two above walmart guitar kind of thing. No matter, worth more than the genesis.
I did have to do a little touch up on the body and it’s in desperate need of new strings.

Will do. It is a 15" Acer that runs Windows 8. I tried to downgrade it to 7, Acer said it was possible on their website, but their drivers did not work. It has a solid state drive and an optical disk drive, usb 2.0, HDMI, and a metal case. It is fairly light and the battery still holds full charge. I don’t use it too often anymore so it really isn’t needed. I would suggest a hard drive reformat and fresh installation of windows 8.1 or 10. The recovery disks come with 8, but I couldn’t get them to work. I am not that tech savvy so I was unable to get it to work. I will get the model and all that jazz when I get home from work. I also have the original box and stuff it came with still.

What are the tuners on it, Grovers, or something unbranded?

Thanks. Not trying to lead you on or be That Guy prying for obscure crap or anything, just idle curiosity about it. Looks like they might be Grover copies, probably not too bad.
Interestingly, the neck is a bolt-on like a Strat, so the sustain would be less than one would expect from a Les Paul normally. Which actually is an advantage for some metal.
In general it seems to be cheap but really competent for the price point.

I’d be interested in the iPad. I’ve got a bunch of textbooks I could trade haha otherwise I can’t think of much

Good to know! I have a lady on FB who claims it’s a knockoff. I’ve had a few different people give it a once over and all come to a similar it’s a cheap model but good enough for what it is.
Just from your perspective, price point seem about right considering wear/model/etc?

I was joking, but ran them anyway (top two worked, bottom two did not) That top book must be brand new, still has strong trade value of ~$45

In the strictest of senses, it is a knockoff. It is a Les Paul style body made by somebody who isn’t Gibson or a Gibson subsidiary, out of a single piece of wood like an Epiphone instead of an echter Gibson with a maple top, with a bolt-on neck instead of a set neck, more-or-less correct electrics, a Gibson-compatible bridge, etc. It *is* a dual pickup, which puts it in one respect above an Epi LP Junior, but the Epiphone has a little more name recognition.
I got an Epiphone G400 years ago for $135, which was an Epiphone in a general sense not unlike this guitar (a little nicer) , but it was cheap at that price. My younger brother recently got an Indonesian Squier Strat (so, not bottom of the barrel) at a pawn shop for $130. I’d say it’s a tad high, but not obscenely. After all, the finish and binding on the body looks nice enough.
I am no price expert, but $100, letting it go for $80 or so wouldn’t be crazy. Or you can sit where you are and somebody might give you $110 - on the one hand, it’s not automatically better than Fender compatibles and knockoffs at that price and arguably worse, but on the other hand, there are many fewer crappy Gibson clones than Fender clones bought as first guitars, so it might be just the ticket for somebody.

When I got it, it was brand new (despite being listed as used) and I’ve only opened it 3 times, oops. Oh well, that’s basically all I have with me unless you like Old Navy clothes
